Structure 1: June 8, 2007

This picture depicts our continued efforts to work through Stratum 2. This stratum includes deposits post-closure of the original structure. Careful excavation and definition of Stratum 2 should allow us to discern the activities of the people that occupied the site immediately after the closure of Structure 1 and/or the reuse of the site by the occupants of the 14th century fieldhouse built in the main roomblock. Consistent with last year’s excavations in this structure, as well as excavations thus far (see the entry from June 6), Stratum 2 has yielded evidence of some hunting or, at least, meat consumption (including various artiodactyl bones), perhaps as the occupants of the later fieldhouse passed the time.  -Khori Newlander
