South Extramural: June 19, 2007

The Pickaxe Punks have been hard at work in South Extramural trench, attempting to reach sterile soil.  The eastern 1×2 is very close, but the western unit is lagging behind a little because of the pit feature we found last week.  We’ve been chipping away at the soil around the rocks of the wall in order to view them better, and have also uncovered a few little stones of sandstone to the north of it in the western 1×2.  Also in the western unit,  sticking out of the northern baulk and close to the western edge, are two small pieces of sandstone with ashy sediment around them.  We will decide soon wether to proclaim it a feature or not.  All of the stones and the wall have been mapped.
