Structure 2: June 21, 2007

This week was another productive week for the crew of Structure 2. Since the last entry, we made some exciting discoveries in the deep area of our structure. We found that the floor we exposed a few days ago was not actually the original floor. The reason we know this is because we continued to dig through the floor on the east side of the area and found a second hearth further down. We also found a pit on the original floor near what we believe is a bench along the east wall. Shortly after this picture was taken, we then covered the features with geocloth and then a layer of backfill to ensure that the hearths would be preserved for accurate archaeomagnetic dating, which will give us the date for the last time ancient people used the hearths.
