Structure 1: July 12, 2007

This last week has been very productive for structure 1. After finding the floor we were able to excavate 8 features and collect dirt for soil sampling in the lab. We also mapped the floor and the stratigraphic profiles which we were in the process of completing as this picture was taken.  Although we were not able to take archeomagnetic samples from the hearth, this feature did help us to understand where we were oriented inside of the structure. We also found a possible deflector, post holes, and uncovered  wall fall where we thought there was a bench in the southeast corner. As far as Will’s unit, we were successful in finding the rest of the wall and uncovered a vent which can be seen in the picture below. After six weeks of excavation we have uncovered the most pertenent information in the last few days and are satisfied with the work we have accomplished this field season.
