Jacal Roomblock: June 9, 2008

The jacal roomblock is being excavated to understand how it was used and when it was built in relation to the rest of the site. We also hope to understand what went on immediately outside of it. Excavating the roomblock is significant to us because we are uncertain of when each building was built. Today we started to uncover the walls which had been previously excavated and then recovered to protect them from the elements. This entailed removing the dirt and sifting for artifacts. We have so far uncovered stone chips from flint knapping and some small pottery sherds. Most of this was deposited after the site was abandoned either by erosional deposition like wind or water or by rodent activity.
