Jacal Roomblock: June 27, 2008

Since last week we have been very successful in defining the east wall (right side of the photograph below) of our jacal structure. We are now able to see four courses or layers of sandstone within the wall. This is very exciting to see that the wall is still partially intact after our continuous encounters with wall fall. This week our goal was to excavate the existing units sown so that they will all be at the same level. During this process we discovered that there may be a possible wall addition in the southern part (towards the bottom of the photograph ) of our unit. This appears to be added onto an existing wall and may indicate a later occupation. We may expand outside of the existing units in the weeks to come as we are very curious about the daily activities that occurred outside of the structure. But, for now, we hope to further excavate and possibly reach ancient ground surface at the base of the wall and inside of the structure.
