Ceramic Analysis: Summer 2009

We completed the analysis of the majority of ceramics from Creswell Pueblo and have now started on the analysis of the sherds from the pithouse village (AZ J:14:36).  In the fall, we will begin to analyze all this information from Creswell and compare it to the pithouse village.  Claire Barker’s previous comparison of a sample of ceramics from Creswell Pueblo and AZ J:14:36 found that the residence of Creswell was getting more of their pottery from the south (Mogollon and Cibola production areas), while the pithouse village emphasized ceramic production areas to the north (Hopi Buttes and Mesas).  We will investigate whether this patterning holds up now that more sherds have been analyzed from Creswell Pueblo and what this patterning tells us about the interactions that the residents of these two communities had with their neighbors.
