Suvoyuki Day

Each year, the Homol’ovi Ruins State Park has an annual openhouse, called Suvoyuki Day. Suvoyuki means “joint effort,” and celebrates all those that come to Homol’ovi to learn about it’s rich past. The day begins with an early morning run and the opening of the traditional corn roasting pit.

Under the supervision of Hopi community members, HUROP students helped build a corn roasting pit by the visitors center. The link below is an on-line journal of the process of building the roasting pit in 2008 and our return to clean out and repair the pit in 2009.
